2012 - Our Nation Hangs in the Balance Socialism in the United States - Part 1

Socialism is a pie-in-the-sky utopian economic dream. But it has a hard "rubber-meets-the-road" impact on each of us, whether we like it or not. Read more

Charter Schools and Christians
A Pastor's View

Charter schools are not a good alternative to private Christian homeschooling. There are serious problems with charter schools, only one of which is that to get state funds, the state dictates what they can and can’t teach. Read more

America's Stampede Into Socialism: What's the Problem?

America’s increasing movement toward a full-blown welfare state, with its acceleration deeper into socialism, should raise grave concerns. The U.S. is not a total socialistic country yet, but we could be there in the near future if this accelerated movement is not slowed and reversed quickly. Our nation’s stampede to socialism is not limited to the economic or political realms. Read more

Parents Maintain Control of Children's Required Vaccinations for School Entrance

Parent’s Right Secured To Determine the Education for Their Special-Needs Children

In past years, families have been contacted by various Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and pressured to have their special-needs children evaluated and involved in a public school education program. Although California legislation was passed in both 2007 and 2010 to address these concerns, we at FPM have recently begun receiving questions about whether parents are required to enroll their special-needs children in these public school programs. The Danger of Becoming Battle-Weary
By Maurice Roberts

There are not wanting, here and there, the signs that good Christians are suffering from a kind of spiritual metal-fatigue. In our fellowships iron rarely sharpens iron any longer. Much preaching that is orthodox lacks that ring of conviction which is needed to thrust it home into sinners' consciences. A guilty tameness smothers our zeal. Prayers are hum drum and predictable. The apostolic fire has died down and looks like dying away. The gospel, even where it is preached at all, is clothed with the impeding garments of excessive politeness and respectability. Our sermons are frequently no more than a gentle homily or a quiet talk about good religious ideas. Slowly and imperceptibly evangelical people are coming to terms, emotionally and intellectually, with the spirit of the age. Read more.

A Threat to Your Freedom: Local Daytime Curfews

Updated January 2011

Efforts to pass local daytime curfews have been pursued over the last several years by cities and counties across California. Though they vary, these local ordinances generally make it illegal for a child under 18 years of age to be in any public place during normal public school hours unless he falls under one of the listed exemptions. Exemptions differ from city to city. Some daytime curfew ordinances are disguised by using other legal terms such as daytime loitering and are only applicable to compulsory school-age children during school hours, making them effectively daytime curfews.

SB 1317 (and SB 1148), as originally written, could have resulted in homeschooling parents going to court without HSLDA having the opportunities they have frequently used under current law to resolve their members’ legal contacts, preventing them from having to go to court. Read More

Public Education Recruiting In The Hospital

Posted May 28, 2010

Most homeschoolers would be caught by surprise if they had just admitted their child to the hospital and then were approached by someone with a school enrollment form. Yet this is essentially what happened to one family earlier this year when they had to admit their home-schooled son into Children’s Hospital in San Diego, and stumbled on what appears to be a new kind of trial public school program in that city. The Counterweight Inhibiting Excess in Government

Posted March 5, 2010

We as citizens are the counterweight, the balancing force, which our founding fathers designed into our unique form of government in order to secure our freedoms. Without our proper involvement, our government will overwhelm and trample the very liberties and freedoms it is supposed to ensure. Our involvement is both a right and a responsibility of long standing. We neglect this right and this responsibility to our detriment. Read More

Public Education vs. Personal Privacy

There are many reasons to avoid involvement in public education programs. One of those reasons is to protect our children's privacy. And one thing that will set up our children to have their privacy violated is to enroll them in a system that will record, track, and report personal information about them. Read More

Who Butters Your Bread?

What gets bigger the more you take from it? As a kid, this was one of my favorite riddles. The correct answer, of course, is “a hole.” The more you take out of a hole, the bigger it gets. However, there is another answer to this riddle...

Government Benefits - Which Are OK?

That article stated, “We must choose to not ask for the government’s help whenever we have the opportunity to make that choice.” This present article clarifies and elaborates on that statement.
